Three rescued from Koshi
INARUWA, JUL 01 - Three persons, who were missing after a dredger overturned in the Koshi River, have been rescued safely on Friday.
The dredger was removing sand from the riverbed so as to lower the water level in the barrage.
The incident took place about one and a half kilometres south of the Koshi Barrage, said Koshi Barrage Police Station Sub Inspector Shambhu Basnet.
The dredger could have overturned due to the heavy current of the swollen river, police said.
The rescued persons have been identified as machine operator Mohan Amadi, labourers Radadhikuamr Singh and Rajibkumar Sahani. All of them are Indian national.
Police informed that the trio did not drown as they managed to swim in the river until five boats were sent for their rescue.
All three are in normal condition. The machine is owned by the Koshi project of Bihar government.
The water level has significantly risen towards the danger level in the Koshi River for the past few days. Experts have said that the water level rose due to the thickening of riverbeds. The riverbeds have thickened due to siltation over the years.
