Constitutional Council meet deferred
KATHMANDU, JUL 01 - The meeting of Constitutional Council (CC) that was called to recommend names for appointment in four constitutional bodies that have been lying vacant was deferred on Friday.
The meeting was cancelled after the leader of main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), Ram Chandra Poudel, informed Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal that he could not turn up for the meeting due to his ailing health, sources said. The CC meet has been rescheduled for 5 pm, July 6.
High level sources informed that the prime minister in his capacity as the head of CC had sent letters to all the CC members on Wednesday—48 hours before—informing that the CC meet was convened for 5 pm, Friday.
The CC meet will discuss the appointment of office bearers in four constitutional bodies—Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Public Service Commission, Office of the Auditor General and Election Commission.
The delay in the appointment of office bearers in these vital bodies has hindered the smooth functioning of bureaucracy.
