KATHMANDU, JUN 27 - Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Pashupati Shamsher Rana has claimed on Monday that internal rift within the UCPN (Maoists) has held the nation hostage.

Speaking at an interaction organised at the Reporters Club, Rana claimed that the twin task of peace and statute drafting processes would not be logically concluded as long as the rift within the Maoists continues. He warned that the nation would plunge into crisis due to the same reason.

Chairman Rana said that the peace and constitution writing processes would be completed within the stipulated time if the Maoists prioritise them.

The political parties had extended the term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) by three months after a five-point deal was forged by the major parties on the early hours on May 29.

He clarified that the new government would be formed once the peace process gained momentum.

Saying that the new government would not be formed under the leadership of the Maoists without peace, Rana expressed his reservations over the government’s decision that granted the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Maoists despite its possession of weapons.
