KATHMANDU, JUN 27 -

Newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Yang Houlan called on Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara at the latter's office in the Capital on Monday.

It is learnt that the Chinese envoy, at the meeting, voiced concerns over the Tibetan issue and the ‘Free Tibet’ movement with the home minister.

During meeting that lasted for about half an hour, Yang expressed deep concern about what could happen in Nepal during the Establishment Day celebration of the Chinese Communist Party.

“The ambassador appealed to stop any activities that would fortify the ‘Free Tibet’ movement,” Mahara’s Press advisor Manoj Magar said.

In a different context, Yang said Nepal and China have always maintained a cordial relationship and underlined the need to work for its continuance.

Admiring the policies that Nepal has adopted in relation to China, the ambassador, on behalf of the Chinese government, invited Mahara for a visit to China, sources confirmed.

In response, Mahara assured that Nepal would not encourage any activities against China in the nation. He is also reported to have accepted Yang’s invitation.
