KATHMANDU, JUN 24 -

The UCPN (Maoist) submitted a memorandum to party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday, demanding proportional representation in the Cabinet.

A group of around 151 Maoist lawmakers including Hisila Yami and Pampa Bhusal has demanded that those inducted in the Cabinet against the public mandate should be called back and at least three additional women representatives should be sent to the Cabinet.

The Maoists have 11 ministries in the current government.

The memorandum has drawn the attention of the Maoist leadership towards the party policy to ensure proportional representation of women, Dalits, Madhesi and marginalised communities in all the government organs.

The lawmakers have demanded that the upcoming Maoist Central Committee meeting should hold discussions on the issue.

A majority of the lawmakers, who signed the memorandum, are close to Vice Chairmen Baburam Bhattarai and Mohan Baidya.
