EU supports SAF-BIN
KATHMANDU, JUN 24 - The European Union (EU) has supported the project ‘Building Resilience to Climate Change through Strengthening Adaptive Small Scale Farming Systems in Rain-fed Areas in Bangladesh, India and Nepal (SAF-BIN)’. The project is aimed at benefiting 1000 small farmer households in the mid-hills of Kaski, Chure hills of Nawalparasi and the plains of Bardiya districts.
Caritas Nepal is implementing the project in Nepal with EU assistance worth EUR 600,000. The project is a part of the EU’s ‘Global Programme on Agriculture Research for Development,’ a statement issued by the EU on Friday read.
“The project being launched today was part of the broader support by the EU to South Asian nations that were being exposed to adverse impacts of climate change,” Delegation of the EU to Nepal, Charge’ d Affaires said in the statement.
The project shall screen and document innovations in traditional food production, distribution and consumption systems, with a strong focus on how Small Holders Farmers (SHF) can better adapt to climate change and enhance food and nutritional security, further read the statement.
