‘Lack of Maoist leadership stalled peace, statute’
POKHARA , JUN 19 - UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has remarked on Sunday that some national and international elements debarred the Maoists from taking the government leadership notwithstanding the people’s mandate.
The Maoist vice chairman remarked that the twin tasks of peace and constitution drafting were stalled for the past three years as our party (the Maoist) was hemmed in so as to prevent it from carrying out its responsibility.
Speaking at a programme organised in Western Regional Engineering Campus in Lamachaur, Pokhara today, Bhattarai accused that the other political parties of obstructing the peace and constitution drafting by only blaming the Maoists. He claimed that his party was clear on integration of the Maoist combatants, Bhattarai said other political parties have failed to propose a draft on the same.
He argued that the term integration meant forming a new force comprising two army—Nepal Army (NA) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA)—without merging the PLA into the NA.
Meanwhile, the Bhattarai faction of the Maoists held a secret meeting in Pokhara on Sunday. The meeting comes right on the heels of a secret meeting of the Maoist cadres close to hard-line Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya.
Vice Chairman Bhattarai and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Top Bahadur Rayamajhi had marked their presence in the meeting at a hotel in Lakeside, Pokhara, party sources said.
