'PM should resign for timely statute'
KATHMANDU, JUN 15 - Constitutional Committee President Nilamber Acharya has remarked on Wednesday that the twin task of peace and constitution drafting won't gain mementum unless Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal steps down.
Speaking at an interaction at the reporters club in the Capital today, Acharya claimed that successful conclusion of the peace process and timely statute is not possible until national consensus government is formed following the resignation of the prime minister.
"All the issues will be solved if the ruling parties forge consensus," Acharya said.
He stressed that the prime minister should resign as peace, constitution and consensus government are inter-related.
Also on the occassion, Acharya said the government should be led by the main opposition party the Nepali Congress as its proposal for the amendment of the constitution has been endorsed.
He added , "Differences have surfaced as the government has not changed despite endorsement of the proposal to amend the constitution."
