'Bhattarai will be the next PM'
KATHMANDU, JUN 06 - UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma has claimed on Monday that his party Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai will become the next prime minister.
Speaking at a programme organised at the Reporter’s Club in the Capital today, Sharma asserted that a national consensus government under the leadership of Bhattarai would soon be formed. He remarked, Bhattarai is popular both within and outside the party and everyone wants him to be the next prime minister. He further said Bhattarai’s name would be unanimously endorsed once the government leadership comes in the Maoists’ hand.
“Chairman [Pushpa Kamal Dahal] would be focused on peace and constitution drafting process rather than the government leadership,” said the Maoist spokesperson. “Bhattarai will take the leadership of consensus government.”
While reiterating that the Maoists is committed to conclude the peace process and constitution drafting, leader Sharma said it is natural for the Maoists to claim the leadership of the to-be-formed government.
The Maoist spokesperson went on to say that, the process of ending the dual security system would be concluded soon as all the weapons of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have already been collected and that the process has begun to send the PLA combatants back to their respective camps.
At the programme, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Narayan Khadka remarked that Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal should resign from the post immediately and pave way for national unity government as it is not possible to forge consensus under his leadership.
He claimed that the prime minister who himself “conceded to have become a caretaker one” should not stick to the post even for a minute. He added that it is unconstitutional and unfortunate for the nation where the caretaker government makes bigger decision such as promotion, recruitment and transfer.
Also, UML politburo member Pradeep Gyawali said the government which is like caretaker should be relieved by forging a national consensus.
