NTY promo: Nepali embassy officials in Delhi rue NTB apathy
NEW DELHI, JUN 05 -
Officials at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi have expressed ‘serious’ reservations over the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)’s act of ‘not coordinating with them’ while promoting a national event like NTY-2011 in Indian cities.
“We were not informed about the events being organised in other cities of India. NTB only sent us an invitation for the event to be held in New Delhi,” said Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Minister (Economic) at the embassy.
Although the dates and venues were mentioned, NTB did not render information about its local partners and the contact person in a faxed invitation to the embassy a few weeks ago. “We are confused that through whom the NTB is running the events and whom should we contact. The local party also did not contact us,” said Adhikari.
NTB has been promoting NTY through its local partners with special focus on shopping malls in New Delhi and areas close to the Indian capital. The last phase of the event that kicked off on Saturday is being wrapped up on Sunday at Shipra Mall in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
When asked about the issue, an NTB official, who is currently in New Delhi to observe the promotional events, expressed ignorance. “We had informed them about the programmes, but I am unable to say how the communication gap happened regarding the coordination,” said Rohini Khanal, Senior Tourism Marketing and Promotion Officer at NTB. However, Nepal’s Ambassador to India Rukma Sumsher Rana participated at the promotional event held at City Square Mall in Rajouri Garden on May 21 and 22. Stalls were also set up at DLF Place Mall on May 28 and 29.
Throughout the day, Nepali stalls saw a considerable number of visitors. Hundreds of people visited the stalls and showed their curiosity on tour packages, pilgrimage sites and popular and historical tourist destinations, among others. Prior to this, promotional events were held in Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai and Kolkata.
