RCT hammer Koliapani to go second
KATHMANDU, MAY 30 -
Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) moved to second place in the Red Bull Martyrs’ Memorial ‘A’ Division League standings after earning an empathic 7-0 win over Koilapani Polestar at the Dashrath Stadium on Sunday.
RCT, on 16 points from six matches, trail leader Manang Marshyangdi Club on goal difference. The Thamel-based club are two goals ahead of their nearest rivals.
Cash-strapped Koilapani Polestar are rock bottom at 18th with no points to their credit. Friends Club lost their grip in the table, sliding downwards to 12th with four points after yet another below par performance. This time, the Kupandole-based club played a goalless draw against newcomers Boudha Football Club who are on a commendable position in the standings at eighth with 11 points.
In a one-sided encounter, Amar Dangol scored a brace, while Shekhar Limbu, Satish Rajbhandari and African journey man Antole were in the score-sheet for the winning team. Niraj Gurung made the score-line more empathic scoring an own goal.
In-form RCT went in front as early as in the ninth minute when Antole’s free-kick fired from about 22 yards found the back of the net. The set piece was awarded for a foul on Dipesh Thapa Magar by Dinesh Budhamagar. “Though the math went on as expected, I thought we deserved a more one-sided result. Anyways, I am happy we got the three points,” said RCT coach Madhu Karki. The second goal for RCT came in 26th minute through Amar Dangol. Niraj Gurung widened the score, beating his own keeper in 38th minute. Depressing it may sound, this is the third time Koilapani have scored an own goal, two goals more than what they have scored in their opponent’s post.
RCT added four more goals in the second half, with Limbu scoring in the 58th minute before Rajbhandari came off the bench to add the fourth in the 68th minute. Dangol got his second and the fifth for the team in the 74th minute, while Bijay hammered the last nail in the coffin in the five minutes from time.
Earlier, Friends and Boudha failed to find the back of the net despite opting for an attacking strategy throughout the match.
