‘Prioritise peace, constitution’
KATHMANDU, MAY 30 -
Leaders of different political parties urged on Monday that the processes of peace and statute drafting must be prioritised during the upcoming months.
Nepali Congress (NC) Central leader Gopal Man Shrestha said that homeworks for the formation of a national consensus government must be initiated only after settling upon the principle issues of the peace process.
He added that the constitution writing process cannot gain momentum until the political parties come to terms with the issues of UCPN (Maoist) People’s Liberation Army (PLA) integration and arms management.
Similarly, CPN-UML Central leader Yogesh Bhattarai claimed that Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal’s resignation will be tendered without delay as soon as the leaders forge an agreement on the leadership of the to-be-formed consensus government.
Speaking at the ‘The Headliners,’ a regular Kantipur FM-programme, Bhattarai suggested the leaders to expedite the ongoing processes of peace and statute drafting citing time crunch.
Meanwhile, Maoist Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma urged that all points of the 5-point deal must be implemented in tandem.
He added that the constitution drafting process failed to gain momentum for the past three years due to the failure to form a national consensus government.
