'Weapons exchanged with blood won’t be surrendered'
KATHMANDU, MAY 27 - UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has refuted the reports that his party is going to hand over its weapons to the government. He added the weapons that were "exchanged with blood" could not be handed over so easily.
Media reports had claimed that Dahal was ready to hand over the keys to containers storing Maoist weapons to the Special Committee. Dahal was reportedly under pressure from the hardliners, who argued that the handover of the weapons would amount to surrender.
"It is not true that we [Maoists] are handing over the weapons," said Dahal, speaking at a programme organised by the Krishna Sen Ichhuk Pratisthan in the Capital on Friday. "Various doubts and illusions would be cleared later."
The Maoist chief said the party has arrived at the most humiliating, difficult and painful moment after entering into the peace process.
Maoist hardliner Mohan Baidya, who chaired the programme, lauded Dahal's statement.
