‘Anarchy certain if CA term extension impeded’
KATHMANDU, MAY 21 -
CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam said on Saturday that hindering the extension of the Constituent Assembly (CA)’s term will spark off anarchy in the nation.
Speaking at a program organised in Pokhara, Gautam said that people who are against the CA’s term extension are supporters of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) Chairman Kamal Thapa.
He added that explanations must be given by those who claim that extension of the CA’s term will be catastrophic for the nation.
Gautam claimed that the CA will not be dissolved until the new constitution is promulgated and notified that the government’s constitutional amendment bill for term extension will be endorsed at the parliament soon.
In a different context, he admitted that the new statute cannot be drafted without the UCPN (Maoist). "The Maoists play a vital role in ensuring the success of the statute drafting process," he said.
Taking serious exception to the demands of the opposition parties, Gautam said that demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal without an alternative at hand is frivolous.
