KATHMANDU, MAY 17 -

Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal on Tuesday appealed to the UCPN (Maoist) to table a solid proposal for People’s Liberation Army (PLA) integration prior to May 28.

PM Khanal made the appeal to the Maoist at the time when the main opposition—the Nepali Congress (NC), among other Madhes-based parties, has been stating that the term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) must not be extended unless a dependable basis for concluding the ongoing processes is established and a vital progress is attained with the peace process.

Speaking at a programme organised at the party headquarters in Balkhu, Khanal underlined that the differences among the political parties must be settled and national consensus must be forged at the earliest in order to recover the nation from the current transitional phase.

Claiming that there is no alternative to the CA for promulgating the new constitution, he urged the parties to mend the existing rifts and preclude further conflicts for peace and statute.
