PM expedites discussions with political parties
KATHMANDU, MAY 14 -
Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal has expedited discussions with the leaders of political parties to reach an agreement on the peace process, constitution drafting prior to the May 28 deadline.
Prime Minister Khanal intensified talks with the political parties after the opposition parties including the Nepali Congress urged the government to present basis for extending the tenure of the Constituent Assembly.
Prime Minister Khanal who met UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal yesterday held consultation with NC Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel, leaders of Rastriya Janamukti Party, Nepa Party and Sadhbhawan Party-Anandi Devi on Saturday.
During the meeting held at the prime ministers official residence in Baluwatar, Poudel suggested Khanal to move ahead by concentrating on the peace process, prime ministers press advisor Surya Thapa said.
Poudel opined that consensus on other issues will be forged if the peace process if prioritised.
In response, the prime minister said that taking the peace process to a logical conclusion is the first priority of his government.
Likewise, during the meeting with the fringe parties, Prime Minister Khanal held discussion on concluding the peace process prior May 28 deadline and extending the tenure of the CA.
According to the prime minister's press advisor Prakash Jwala, the government has been preparing to make public the decisions by forging consensus on the peace process and the statute drafting at the earliest.
