FNJ flays torching of Kantipur copies
KATHMANDU, MAY 11 -
The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the burning of Kantipur copies by activists of the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) and threatening media persons associated with the publications.
A statement issued by the FNJ on Wednesday said the MJF cadres took control of shops selling the newspaper in Kathmandu, Bara, Sarlahi and Janakpur districts and burnt copies and also tried to halt distribution of the newspapers in the above districts.
According to the statement, the act of the MJF cadres is against press freedom and right to expression and that the FNJ condemns the same.
FNJ General Secretary Om Sharma said that such an action of a responsible party in the Constituent Assembly is condemnable.
The FNJ also urged the government and the party concerned to end actions that go against the press freedom and take action against those involved in them at the earliest.
