'NC will okay term extension only if govt resigns'
BUTWAL, MAY 04 -
Nepali Congress (NC) leader Bal Krishna Khand said on Wednesday that the party will not endorse the extension of Constituent Assembly (CA)’s term unless the current government under the leadership of Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal resigns.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Rupandehi-chapter of Nepal Press Union in Butwal, Khand claimed that the NC will put forth resignation of current government as the first condition in order to form a national consensus government for concluding the ongoing processes of peace and statute drafting.
Claiming that the UCPN (Maoist) is wandering away from the principles of the CA, he said that clarifications will be sought from the party prior to accepting CA’s term extension.
On the occasion, Khand added that the NC is ready for a referendum provided that the Maoist denies to come to terms with the aspects of peace and statute drafting.
