Draft statute before May 28: Mahara
KATHMANDU, MAY 03 - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Information and Communications, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, said that the government would make public a draft of new constitution before May 28.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the third Memorial Day of the late Nirmala Des Pande and reconstitution of Nepal-India Human Development and Friendship Association, Kavre Chapter, Mahara said the government would issue a draft constitution by May 28, as it would be impossible to promulgate a full statute without consensus among the political parties.
Pande was an Indian democratic leader, a well-wisher of Nepal's democratic movement and all time loyalist to the Indian Gandhi family. Two Indian parliamentarians- Alka Balaram and Kuwar Akhilesh Singh-also expressed their views on Nepal-India relations. “When we used to meet her in Delhi she assured us that a republic set up was palpable in Nepal and wished to see the UCPN (Maoist) as the largest party,” said Mahara. Recalling the land rights movement in India and late Pande's contribution to it, Mahara said she used to say a movement was necessary in Nepal as well.
Former Chief Minister of Arunchal Pradesh of India, P K Thungan, former Nepali ambassador to India, Durgesh Man Singh, CPN-UML leader Keshav Badal, among others, highlighted Nepal-India relations and late pande's contribution.
