Maoist lawmaker Jhakku Subedi slapped
KATHMANDU, MAY 03 -
In yet another case of ‘frustration’ with political leaders, a small tea shop owner at Tinkune in Kathmandu on Monday slapped Maoist lawmaker Jhakku Prasad Subedi.
Subedi, who was heading to his residence after participating in the budget session of the parliament, was slapped by Prem Raj Devkota, a resident of Gaikhur-8 of Gorkha district who runs ‘Tinkune Coffee Shop’ at Tinkune. Devkota misbehaved with him after calling him to his shop, said police.
Devkota asked Subedi when the process of peace and constitution writing would be completed but when the latter failed to answer, he planted two
tight slaps on Subedi’s cheeks. “As usual, he reiterated that the process was going on. I could not bear his false assurances and slapped him,” said an angry Devkota. He also produced a pen and a paper and sought a written commitment from Subedi as to the date the peace and statute would be delivered.
Devkota said he slapped Subedi as political leaders make false promises. “Leaders always make false promises. They take no step to give any outlet to the country, this frustrated me.” He added that he had voted for Subedi in the CA election in the belief that he would work to bring transformation in the country.
Subedi countered that Devkota called him into his shop and inquired about the peace process and statue and while he was assuring about it, slapped him all of a sudden. Subedi came to the limelight after knocking down then CPN-UML Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal in the CA election three years ago from Kathmandu Constituency No. 2
Metropolitan police Circle Baneshwor arrested Devkota and he is in custody. According to DSP Chakra Bahadur Singh, chief at the circle, Devkota will be booked under the Public Offence Act. The incident comes three and half months after CPN (UML) Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, who later became prime minister, was slapped by Devi Prasad Regmi at a public programme in Itahari on Jan 20.
