ROLPA, MAY 01 - Peace and Reconstruction Minister Barsha Man Pun has claimed that the UCPN (Maoist) has transformed into a democratic party like others as it has approved the democratic path. He added that it was impossible for the UCPN (Maoist) to capture the power at the situation.
At a program organised here in the district on Sunday, Pun, who is representing the Maoists in the government, said that the Maoists have already abandoned the ‘hardline course’. "The power cannot be captured at this point of time. We have also joined the democratic politics. Do not doubt in it," Pun said.
Hinting at the approval of democratic line for peace and statute by the recent Maoist Central Committee, Pun, also a former PLA combatant, said the party has decided to move forward as per the demand of time and age.
He ruled out the possibility of completing the drafting of new constitution by May 28 and added that all the parties agreed to it.
While admitting that there are still disagreements among the parties on some crucial issues such as forms of governance, electoral system and federal structure, he said that there would be some difficulties because of the delay in the statute.
Pun remarked that it was pointless to pretend that there would be a timely statute, but he said that the problem could be resolved if an integrated draft of the new constitution could be readied by May 28.
He claimed that the Maoists have become a democratic party by acknowledging the fundamental principles of human rights, press freedom and proportionality.
Pun said that the to-be-formed state would stand against the discrimination of cast, creed, regional and gender. Pun, however, warned that if the war did not come to an end in agreement then it would continue.
