‘Nation may witness downfall of democracy’
CHITWAN, APR 30 -
UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said on Saturday that the nation may witness a downfall of democracy provided that the new constitution is not promulgated within May 28.
Speaking at a programme organised at Ratnanagar in Chitwan, Bhattarai said that the political parties must move forward in unity in order to keep the nation from reeling into a catastrophe.
Claiming that political conundrums like those faced in 2017 BS may arise at present, he underlined that everyone must act seriously and embrace their responsibility to preclude the looming crisis.
Opining about the situation after Constituent Assembly (CA)’s term expiry, Bhattarai said that the political parties must come to terms with statute drafting at the earliest.
“A new constitution, as desired by the public, must be promulgated by extending the CA’s term by six months at most if statute is not drafted by May 28,” he said.
