RCT take on APF in the curtain raiser

KATHMANDU, APR 28 -

The Red Bull Martyrs’ Memorial ‘A’ Division League Football will kick off at the Dashrath Stadium on Thursday with the curtain raiser between Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) and Armed Police Force (APF).

RCT looking to revive their splendid history at the ‘A’ division will hope to begin their journey on the right note. However, the two teams looking at their record in the previous league do not have much difference. As RCT had a spot and point above APF’s tenth position with 22 points.

Likewise, defending champion Nepal Police Club will entertain new comer Boudha Football Club in the second match. Boudha had got promoted to the ‘A’ division only this season. Police had a dismal AFC President’s Cup last week where had lost all three matches and failed to get off the mark. They will look to erase those awful memories with a strong start.

Police captain on the eve of their inaugural match said, “We are here to defend out title and will settle for nothing less than three points.”

The league consists of 18 teams, including 17 from the valley and one from outside.

Of the 18 teams, the top eight teams will qualify for the national league to be contested by 10 teams starting November 17, barring any alteration from ANFA. The eight teams will be joined by top two teams from outside the valley whose berths will be decided through a competition featuring the winners of the district leagues.
