KATHMANDU, APR 27 - An immigration official involved in the misuse of high-profile diplomatic passports of Constituent Assembly members was arrested on Wednesday.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Bhuminanda Bhandari, who was found to be an accessory to the crime involving CA members Gayatri Sah and Biswanath Pratap (BP) Yadav.

Bhandari was involved in escorting those carrying the tampered red passports in and out of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

During investigation, CIB found that Bhandari was on duty at the TIA on January 16 and 18 to facilitate the departure and post-deportation exit of Pritivi Chantyal and an unidentified woman who carried the fake passports of the lawmakers.

According to Superintendent of Police at the CIB Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Bhuminanda has admitted to his involvement in aiding Chantyal and the woman.

Police said he may have been offered a good sum of money for his role at the TIA.

Bhuminanda also played a central role in hiding the deportation documents provided by Etihad Airways, whose security arrangements played a key role in identifying the fake passport holders in Abu Dhabi and helping the two deportees disappear.
