KATHMANDU, APR 25 -

Mother’s Day is approaching, and it’s time to start planning what special gift you should give your mother. We would like to suggest paying a visit to the International Club at Sanepa where Women’s Creation, Patan will be featuring a number of consumable and gift products you can get for your mother from May 1-2.

There will be dried fruits, confections like sel, nimki, phini, phurundana and lakhamari, fresh fruits, wine, juice, cakes and muffins, oatmeal and assorted biscuits, flowers, handicraft products, pashmina and various other gift items.

So what’s so special about all these products which are easily available at the market? First, you can get all of them at one place saving you the bother of rushing here and there; and second, a certain portion of the money you spend on buying them will be invested by Women’s Creation to empower women.

Women’s Creation is a national community-based non-profit organisation working for women’s empowerment. The organisation through different training and development programmes imparts skills to

underprivileged groups so that they can be independent and earn their own living.

“The product packages we have featured are not so different than others available at the market. The only thing that differs is that we have priced all the products very nominally, there is no packing charge, and also people can make a contribution to a social cause while purchasing gifts for their mother. We have also included products that are made by women associated with our organisation,” said Basanti Pradhan, one of the members of Women’s Creation. “There are about 50 varieties of

products.” Furthermore, while purchasing packaged products, one will get a 600 ml bottle of Pepsi free. Prices start at Rs 30.

According to another member Milu Thapa, they have so far received some 20 to 30 orders for Mother’s Day. “We are targeting selling at least 500 to 600 units of packaged gift products.” She added that the move was an initiative by the organisation to make it sustainable. “We are working to make sure that we will not need to look for donors to empower Nepali women,” said Thapa. She added that the organisation was planning to run similar programmes on other occasions too.

In today’s edition of Bazaar, The Kathmandu Post features some of the products you may want to get for your mother at Women’s Creation at The International Club, Sanepa.
