KATHMANDU, APR 21 -

The Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday remanded lawmakers Gayatri Shah and Biswonath Prasad Yadav in custody for four days. They were arrested for   misusing their diplomatic passports.

Justice Madhav Prasad Pokhrel ordered them sent to custody. According to KDC, their custody period will end Friday and they will be again presented at KDC to extend  remand. Police is likely to file a case against them the same day.

The two  were arrested from Baneshwor on Tuesday after the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) found them guilty of misusing their passports.

Police investigation revealed that the two lawmakers knew what their act would lead to and therefore, carried it out intentionally.

Shah (29)  and Yadav (40) represent Nepali Janata Dal and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Nepal) respectively.

Though the police sought a 15-day detention order, the court gave four days for investigation. According to provision, police should present detainees in court within 24 hours of arrest.

Earlier, police had confiscated the diplomatic passports bearing numbers 019827 and 019893 that were issued to Shah and Yadav respectively.

The lawmakers’ involvement in the high-profile scam came to surface after the arrest of a Nepali national, Prithivi Chhantyal, and another unidentified Nepali woman at Abu Dhabi immigration in UAE.
