Prez Yadav concerned over peace, statute

KATHMANDU, APR 19 -

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav convened separate meetings with the heads of the major three parties at the presidential residence in Sheetal Niwas on Tuesday.

President Yadav, in the meet held with Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, expressed concern over the ongoing processes of peace and statute drafting, sources confirmed.

In response, PM Khanal is reported to have said that discussions among the political parties have been intensified for expediting the processes.

It is learnt that PM Khanal also informed President Yadav about Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna’s visit to Nepal, which begins on Wednesday.

On the occasion, he assured the president that the government is serious towards peace and timely statute and has been working to maintain sovereignty and attain prosperity in the nation.

The meet, which lasted for about an hour, also dwelt on the issues of expansion of Council of Ministers under the current government, among others.

Similarly, President Yadav held consultations with UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala.

Maoist Chair Dahal, in the meeting, is reported to have reiterated the commitment of the Maoist towards piloting the peace and the constitution drafting process to a logical conclusion.

The meeting convened with Koirala also dwelt on numerous aspects of peace and statute drafting and the issues therein, sources confirmed.
