‘Nat’l consensus vital for peace, timely statute’
KATHMANDU, APR 19 -
UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said on Tuesday that peace and timely constitution cannot be guaranteed without a national consensus government.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Reporters’ Club in the Capital, Sharma underlined that the political parties must come together for piloting the ongoing processes of peace and statute drafting to a logical conclusion.
“The Nepali Congress (NC) should join the current government,” he said, “The Maoist is aware that the statute cannot be drafted bypassing the NC.”
Sharma clarified that the Maoist is ready to sacrifice the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) portfolio if that is what it takes for the NC to participate in the current government.
Claiming that the party is committed to concluding the peace and the statute drafting processes, he underlined that the Maoist wishes to promulgate a ‘constitution with consensus.’
On the occasion, Sharma added that the new statute must be promulgated via the Constituent Assembly (CA).
“The dissolution of the CA has been proposed by some forces as a scheme to enforce an authoritarian rule in the nation,” he warned.
