WFP distributes food for work
MAKAWANPUR, APR 15 -
World Food Programme (WPF) has distributed food to Chepangs in five Makwanpur VDCs.
As part of the Rural Community Infrastructure Development Programme, 352 metric tonnes of rice has been provided under its Food for Work programme.
According to WPF, the food was distributed for the opening of a track and launch of Khoriya Development Programme (KDP).
Programme coordinator of Manahari Development Institute (MDI) Nepal, Khop Narayan Shrestha said 152 metric tonnes of the food was provided to the community for the purpose of opening a 2-km roadway from Gogane’s Kagatikhola to Dandakharka and the remaining amount for the functioning of the KDP at Khairang, Kakada, Bharta and Raksirang VDCs in the district.
The WPF distributed rice last year too in the area for implementing the KDP programme. Planning Officer at the District Development Committee Purushottam Dhakal said this year’s distribution was motivated by last year’s success. Under the programme, MDI Nepal, which has been working on environment reform and poverty alleviation programme, planted 25,000 banana saplings and 10,000 saplings of kucho (a shrub from which brooms are made).
