Maoist won't get Home portfolio: Pokharel
PARBAT, APR 11 -
Former Minister for Information and Communications and CPN-UML Secretary Shanker Pokharel Monday said the Home portfolio should not be handed over to the UCPN (Maoist) at any cost.
Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari in Prabat, Pokharel claimed that the Maoist will not get any portfolios concerning security till the peace process concludes.
"Differences surfaced within the Nepal Army in the past due to the Maoist when it had Home portfolio," Pokharel said.
Thus, he urged the Maoist not to hinder the peace process by sticking to the demand of Home Ministry.
He said, "The Maoist party that sacrificed Prime Minister's post should also sacrifice Home portfolio."
Also on the occasion, Pokharel clarified that a new consensus will be forged with the Nepali Congress if it joins the government.
He said, "The Maoist does not want NC to join the government and the NC wants to stay in the opposition bench that is the reason behind delay in concluding the peace process and timely statute."
Pokharel said new statute will be promulgated within May 28 deadline if the political parties forge consensus in cooperation.
"If no consensus is forged, the nation will plunge into another conflict," Pokharel added.
