SLC exams saw no better management this year
KATHMANDU, APR 02 -
The School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination administration was not without loopholes this year too despite the exam board’s claimed tough measurers in controlling the rampant malpractices.
According to the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE), around 500 people including exam superintendents, invigilators and students were arrested and expelled from various exam centres across the country within the eight days of the examination for their involvement in irregularities.
People from every walk of life—lawmakers, professors, security personnel, teachers and guardians—were found adopting unfair means in the examination. Examination Controller Surya Prasad Gautam said three superintendents, more than a dozen assistant superintendents, five dozen invigilators and a number of guardians were arrested from different parts of the country. As many as 300 students were expelled for violating the norms of the examination.
According to the OCE, 496,243 students took the examinations at 1,672 centres across the country. Of them, 436,411 are regular examinees while 59,832 were exempted. While, 8,140 students—7,794 regular and 346 exempted—attended the exams from 89 open schools. Kathmandu saw the highest number of SLC examinees (32,860) while the least number (122) was for Manang.
A total of 47,242 officials, including 1,672 superintendents, 2,395 assistant superintendents, 19,843 invigilators
and 6,612 peons, had been deployed
for the examination period. “If everything goes according to our plan, the results
will be published in the first week
of Ashadh, 2068 (June third week),” Gautam said.
