‘NC’s govt participation vital for peace, timely statute’
KATHMANDU, MAR 21 -
Nepali Congress (NC) leader Sujata Koirala remarked on Monday that her party must join the government for ensuring the success of the peace process and the timely promulgation of the constitution.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Reporters’ Club in the Capital, she said that the NC has no other alternative besides participating in the current government to avert the political deadlock.
Koirala stated that the NC must move forward in coordination with the UCPN (Maoist) for transforming the current government to a national consensus one .
She claimed that she will endeavour to initiate the participation of NC in the Jhalanath Khanal-led government.
On the occasion, Koirala said that the Maoist has come into the democratic mainstream and concerns about polarisation are pointless at present.
She clarified that the NC will have no problem with joining the government given that the seven-point pact is dissolved and a new agreement is drafted, inclusive of the NC’s views.
Claiming that the identity of the country can be held strong by following the ideologies of agreement, coordination, and unity, which were embraced by Late NC veteran leader Girija Prasad Koirala, she said that the political parties must rise above their vested interests for the greater good of the country.
