Welcome to electronic shopping. The website harilo.com allows people residing in Nepal to buy products from abroad with a few clicks. The website offers a range of products from mobile phones, iphones, laptops and computer parts to kitchen utensils, protein shakes, suits and motorbike helmets from stores in the US.

Kim Smith, a co-founder of harilo.com, is impressed with the customer response they have received within eight months of opening. “We are receiving around 3,000 hits a day,” said Smith. “Our customers are not limited to the Kathmandu Valley. We have been receiving orders from Pokhara, Chitwan, Dharan and Birgunj too. We are planning to open a business point in Pokhara.”    

Describing how the business got started, Smith said that friends and relatives of Akshay Sthapit, another founder of the online shopping website, would ask him to bring goods from the US while he was a student there, and he started a mechanism to fulfil their requests as a project work in his class which developed into harilo.com. Competitive prices and speedy delivery are the features of harilo.com. Smith said that customers can get the goods within 10 days after placing the order. “The time of delivery depends on the websites customers use for their shopping. Generally, it takes two to five days to collect goods ordered through amazon.com while it takes 10 to 15 days for goods ordered through eBay,” said Smith. “We have a warehouse at Florida to collect the goods from where they are shipped to Nepal usually on Tuesday each week.”

Customers can pay for their purchases through a variety of methods. “You can use plastic money as well as cash,” said Smith. Harilo.com has tied up with Laxmi Bank, Nepal Investment Bank and e-Sewa Nepal for receiving payment.

The website contains a list of websites where customers can do their shopping. “Interested persons have to fill up a form to get a quote of the selected goods. The quote includes the cost price, shipment charge, customs and other payable heads,” said Smith. Customers get the quote within 24 hours after filling up the form. Harilo.com processes the order after receiving payment.
