Defence Minister rules out bulk integration
KATHMANDU, MAR 16 - Defence Minister Bishnu Poudel on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of bulk integration of the former UCPN (Maoist) combatants unless each of the combatants fulfils the basic criteria.
"Eligibility of each combatant must be evaluated for bulk integration," said Defence Minster Poudel, at a programme organised in the Reporter's Club today.
Noting that integration is a process to accommodate the combatants in three national security agencies—Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, Minister Poudel remarked that it is not necessary to form a separate security force as mentioned in the seven-point deal.
In the seven-point agreement, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal have agreed to form a separate security force for the Maoist combatants.
"Integration means not forming a separate force but inducting the combatants into security agencies," said Minister Poudel.
Adding that the Maoist combatants have been brought under the purview of special committee, he informed that the political parties have reached an agreement to employ necessary manpower for monitoring the Maoist cantonments.
