Baitadi service seekers hit hard
BAITADI, MAR 12 - Activities have been affected in government offices in Baitadi district as they are without chiefs.
Service seekers are forced to return empty-handed as chiefs of over a dozen offices are out of the district. Moreover, lack of effort to fill the vacant posts has aggravated the situation.
Account officer at District Land Revenue Office, Bhupal Singh Karki is handling office works after chief Hari Datta Bhatta was retired two weeks ago. Office works such as land registration have been affected in the chief's absence.
"We are unable to serve people," said Karki. No initiative has been taken to solve the problem even if we informed the centre of it.
The posts of chief at the District Soil Conservation Office and the District Survey Office have lain vacant for years. Chief District Officer Murari Prasad Sharma and Deputy Superintendent of Police Suka Dev Neupane are out of district.
Chief of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction Office, Ramesh Thing, who went to Kathmandu two weeks ago, is yet to return.
Staffers said official works such as distribution of salaries and financial transaction have been affected. Local Development Officer Kumar Bahadur Khadka is also on leave. Sanjit Gahataraj of District Development Committee said Khadka would return to work after a week.
A doctor is looking after the District Hospital after its acting Chief Rameshwor Devkota left for Kathmandu to attend a seminar.
District chief of Nepal Telecom Shyam Raj Bista is away for the last two weeks. Chief of Agriculture Development Office Ramlakhan Mandal, District Forest Office chief Prem Singh Dhami, District Education Officer Bhim Bahadur Saut and Engineer at Technical Office Ram Kumar Shrestha have been away for weeks. Officials said they had gone to Kathmandu, Dhangadi, Nepalgunj and Dadeldhura for various purposes.
