KATHMANDU, MAR 11 - CPN-UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel said on Friday that the controversial Home portfolio would be handed over to Defence Minster Bishnu Poudel.
Speaking at a programme organised in the Reporter's Club, the UML secretary said although the prime minster has kept the plum portfolio to himself due to the haggle between UCPN (Maoist) and the UML over the same, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) would be conferred to Minister Poudel once the differences are patched up.
Earlier, Prime Minster Jhala Nath Khanal kept the ministry to himself for the time being after the Maoist-UML wrangle over the plum ministry delayed the expansion of his Cabinet.
He said that the Maoists should not be allocated any of the security related ministries as the party had misused those ministries during its leadership in the past.
He went on to argue that the Maoists won't be able to treat the government security bodies justifiably even if the party is given the security related portfolios, since the Maoists are biased and concerned about their combatants and youth front, the Young Communist League.
The UML secretary, however, noted that the Maoists would get not just the Home portfolio but the premiership itself if the Maoists take ahead the integration of their combatants honestly.
