Classes in locals’ yards

BARA, MAR 11 -

Himal Primary School in Bharatgunj Singaul VDC-4 in Bara district is conducting classes in the courtyards of locals’ houses for the past two years. The reason is simple, lack of infrastructure.

Worse, it borrows educational materials from the neighbouring Nepal Rastriya Secondary School to provide education to 488 students.

The classes are being held in the courtyards of locals Seram Sangbal, Santa Bahadur Syangtan and Kanchhi Maya Syangtan.

Principal of the school Hari Sharan Khadka said most parents are landless people and constructing a school building with their own investment is an uphill task.

“We are forced to hold classes in the courtyards due to lack of a school building,” he said. Chairman of the school management committee Chhiring Tamang said they started the classes without a building and with a hope that the authorities concerned would help afterwards.

“We are left high and dry without any help from any quarter,” he said.

Tamang said the District Education Office (DAO) assured them of assistance to construct a building and purchase educational materials, but in vain.

Teachers said they are having problems carrying out their duties for want of teaching and educational materials.

“We are relying on a neighbouring school for these materials,” said a teacher. Tilak Khadka of the DAO said a building should have been in place before permission was given to conduct classes. He said problems surfaced after they failed to do so.
