Private schools shut down nationwide
KATHMANDU, MAR 09 -
Private schools throughout the nation have been shut down by the Institutional School Teachers Union of Nepal (ISTU) on Wednesday.
It is reported that the ISTU called the shutdown putting forth various demands, which include provision of appointment letter, revision of salary and benefits, establishment of provident fund for teachers, and end to the exploitation of teachers in private schools, among others.
The ISTU resorted to the protest after talks held with the government yielded no outcome, ISTU member Dinesh Adhikari informed.
The union will introduce stage-wise protests in the future provided that the Private and Boarding Schools' Organisation of Nepal (PABSON), the National Private and Boarding Schools' Organisation of Nepal (N-PABSON), and the schools’ administration turn a deaf ear towards the demands, the ISTU has warned, issuing a press statement today.
