Prez calls for political unity for peace
KATHMANDU, FEB 20 -
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav on Saturday stressed the need for unity among political parties for a logical end to the peace and constitution drafting processes.
In his message on the occasion of 61st Democracy Day, Dr. Yadav said people’s aspirations for peace and prosperity will not be met if the parties fail to move ahead on the basis of consensus. The president also extended his best wishes to the parties for the completion of the constitution drafting and peace processes within the stipulated timeframe.
Meanwhile, the government organised a special function at Tundhikhel to mark the day. Speaking at the programme, Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal urged the parties to beware of “counter revolutionary forces that are trying to foil the political achievements gained by the country.” He also stressed the need for national consensus to complete the peace and constitution writing processes.
The PM said institutionalising the republican system through a new constitution would be the top national responsibility. He expressed hope that Democracy Day would inspire the political parties to shoulder the responsibilities that lie ahead. Khanal also stressed the need for ending disagreement between forces that
jointly struggled to establish political change in the country. He highlighted the need for
economic transformation to bring political
stability to the country.
