61st Democracy Day today
KATHMANDU, FEB 19 -
The 61st National Democracy Day has been marked throughout the country on Saturday by organising various programmes.
A special function is due to kick off at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, Kathmandu. President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal and heads of different constitutional bodies are scheduled to take part in it.
President Yadav in a message issued on the occasion of the National Democracy Day stressed on the need of unity, consensus and cooperation among the political parties.
Likewise, Prime Minister Khanal urged to draft new constitution forging consensus and cooperation.
National Democracy Day is celebrated on the 7th of Nepali month Falgun each year since 1951 when then King Tribhuvan backed by Indian and other political leaders returned from exiled life in India on Falgun 7, 2007 BS (Feb 18, 1951), ending the 104-year-old autocratic Rana oligarchy rule.
