Ex-Minister Shrestha, envoy Ansari fired
KATHMANDU, FEB 16 - The CPN-UML Disciplinary Commission on Wednesday decided to relieve former minister and the party’s politburo member, Rabindra Shrestha, of the entire party memberships for his immoral activities.
The UML decided to sack him from the party after he disappeared with his 22-year-old girlfriend.
The commission said the party was forced to dismiss him as the the party’s sentiment was badly hurt after his illicit relationship hogged the media headlines. The UML commission has directed the Central Committee to carry out further investigate into the issue and initiate necessary action. Shrestha, a former Maoist, joined the UML in 2008.
Likewise, the incumbent Nepali ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Hamid Miya Ansari, who was appointed on the recommendation of the UML, has also been stripped of party membership for his involvement in financial irregularities that defamed the party, the commission said.
The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has been investigating into Ansari's case that he allegedly transferred the insurance claims of more than three Nepali nationals who died in the Gulf country into his own account.
Moreover, the commission has asked party whip to write to party lawmaker Shila Katila, who cast her vote in favour of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar in the prime ministerial elections on Feb. 3, breaching the party's whip, seeking clarification. Further action will be taken against Katila after the party whip come up with response.
Noting that various incidents of violation of discipline have surfaced in the party, the UML Disciplinary Commission drew the attention of the party Central Committee to curb such misconducts and maintain discipline, restraint and solidarity within the party.
