Held for bid to sneak drugs into prison

BHAIRAHAWA, FEB 15 -

A man was caught trying to sneak in brown sugar into the Rupandehi District Police Office for his inmate friend on Sunday.

Basudev Gurung of Siddharthanagar Municipality-13 had concealed packets containing the highly addictive narcotic inside samosas that he meant to deliver to his friends. His plan went awry after the guards asked him to sample the snack before it could be sent in. When bit into a crispy samosa, its content fell out before the guards. Immediatley, the guards pounced on him and took him under control.

Gurung recently served a sentence on the charge of drug possession. “My friends requested me to make the delivery so I bought the brown sugar from Sunauli Bazaar for them,” Gurung admitted after his arrest. He said concealing the drugs inside the samosas seemed to him a foolproof idea, but he hadn’t reckoned with being asked to taste the samosas. Superintendent of Police Sher Bahadur Basnet said Gurung’s bid to send in drugs into the prison was thwarted due to the regulation that requires visitors to taste any food they bring for their friends or relatives serving jail terms.

Drug abuse is a major problem in Rupandehi and many youths in the district have fallen victim to it.
