Ex-minister elopes with college girl
UML leader Rabindra Shrestha has eloped with a 22-yr-old girl
KATHMANDU, FEB 12 -
Most politicians bend their necks to Mammon (the greedy god of wealth), just as former home minister Bhim Rawal did in visiting Geneva in the capacity of a minister.
However, with Valentine’s Day close at hand a Cupid-struck CPN-UML politico
got blinded by the love darts of the winged cherub. So much so that our man of adventure in his early forties, better known as former minister for general administration Rabindra Shrestha, eloped with a 22-year-old girl.
The commotion is yet to die down even as his distraught family members confided that Shrestha is out of contact for the last five days. His sudden disappearance prompted his family to reach the party headquarters’ to know his whereabouts. Party insiders disclosed that Shrestha had eloped with a girl— Suvechha Silwal of Dhading, a student at Kathmandu Model College in the Capital. Shrestha already has a wife and a 13-year-old daughter.
Silwal, a Master’s level student, is also a member of the UML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Students’ Union. The two are said to have fallen for each other while working for the party.
Shrestha has switched off his mobile phone but party insiders suspect he might be holed up in the Captial.
Those in the know said Shrestha gained notoriety for an extra-marital affair during his stint as Valley in-charge of the then CPN-Maoist before joining UML. A Maoist cadre, after learning of Shrestha’s dalliance with his wife, committed suicide. Shrestha joined UML in 2008.
While his family members have not lodged a formal complaint with the police some senior police officers close to his family have been requested to trace his whereabouts. The family also approached Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal and the Ministry Home Affairs. Party secretary Yuba Raj Gyawali confirmed Shrestha’s disappearance and pledged the party would launch a hunt for him.
