Govt panel to fix pvt school fees in days
KATHMANDU, FEB 10 -
The Central Fee Determining and Monitoring Committee under the Ministry of Education has said it will fix tuition fees that private schools can charge within five days.
The committee on Wednesday decided to form a nine-member task force led by a Department of Education director, Dilli Rimal to recommend fees from the primary to the secondary level. The committee represented by private school organisations, the District Education Offices in the Valley and the guardians’ association will present its report within five days. President of Nepal Guardians’ Association and task force member Suprabhat Bhandari said the committee will suggest the new fee structure after holding discussions with stakeholders. “The fee will be determined after forging consensus among all the stakeholders,” he said. The task force is also assigned to design directives on determining fees scientifically for private educational institutes. The Education Regulation amended last month envisions a separate directive for fixing tuition fees.
Last year, private schools in Kathmandu Valley hiked fees by up to 25.22 percent citing salary hike, allowances and facilities for staff. Over the issue, the Maoist All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary along with teachers’ unions shut the schools for about a month.
