KANCHAPUR, JAN 31 -
Nomadic Raute families living at Mataina and Tundikhel of Kanchanpur district have opted for daily labour following the ban on entering community forests, which was their only source of livelihood.
Lal Bir Raute said they are into wage labour for daily bread after authorities prevented them from entering forest areas.
Earlier, Rautes used to gather and eat wild forest tubers, fruits, and greens as well as make handmade wooden bowls and boxes. Lal Bir Raute said he works in farmlands and construction sites to tend his five family members.
It is said that some Raute families have left for India in search of better alternatives. Some have gone to Dharchula and Dadeldhura districts in search of jobs. Thirteen Raute families are said to be living in Kanchanpur. RSS
