KATHMANDU, JAN 30 - Top leaders of the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress (NC) held talks with senior Nepal Army (NA) officers including Chief of Army Staff at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar this evening.

The talks, convened by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Sunday, is centered on the integration and rehabilitation of former Maoist PLA combatants.

Though the leaders of major three parties—Maoists, NC and UML—held several rounds of talks on the modality of integration and rehabilitation, this is the first time NA officers were invited to discuss various models on integration.

CoAS General Chhatra Man Singh, Lt. General Toran Jung Bahadur Singh, NC President Sushil Koirala, NC leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ram Chandra Poudel, Krishna Sitaula, UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, UML leaders Bamdev Gautam, Ishwor Pokharel, Bhim Rawal, among other leaders, were present during the talks.

The meeting comes amid differences between the parties over the model on PLA management.

The taskforce formed to prepare model for integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants had held a meeting on Friday. Similarly, top leaders of the major political parties had discussed the same on Saturday.
