UML probe committee to continue investigation
SUNSARI, JAN 25 -
The high-level committee formed by the CPN-UML to probe into the Jhalanath Khanal-slapping incident has decided to continue investigation on the same.
Although the guilty—Devi Prasad Regmi of Bharaul-5 in Sunsari district—was released on a thousand rupees bail after he apologised for the misdemeanour, the committee will not cease its investigation until the real cause that triggered the mishap is unraveled, Committee Member Keshav Bista informed.
The committee, which was formed last Thursday under the coordination of Moti Raj Sunuwar, has demanded a week’s term extension for the investigation. Its current term is expiring tomorrow.
The committee has already held preliminary discussions with Regmi, his family, relatives, and the locals regarding the incident, Bista informed.
However, Chairman Khanal has requested the committee not to elevate the incident any further, he added.
Meanwhile, the Civil Society in Itahari has issued a press statement demanding immediate action against Regmi.
