Public offence charge filed against slapper Regmi
ITAHARI, JAN 21 - A public offence case has been filed against Devi Prasad Regmi, 49, who slapped CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal in a public function organised at Itahari, Sunsari on Thursday.
Office secretary of CPN-UML District Committee, Sunsari, Govinda Karki filed the lawsuit against Regmi at Sunsari District Court on Friday.
Based on the case, Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Thapaliya directed the district police to take Regmi into custody for 15 days. The chief district officer holds the authority to free Regmi on bail of Rs. 28,000.
Regmi, who claims to be a former UML supporter, had slapped Khanal accusing the political leaders of protracting the political imbroglio in the country.
Police had arrested Regmi following the incident and detained at Area Police Office in Itahari.
The former "UML supporter" justified that he slapped Khanal as "the leaders messed up the country, it is better to go mad than die."
The UML have claimed that the UCPN (Maoist) enticed Regmi to hit their party chairman.
"The Maoist cadres made Regmi to slap Khanal after many Maoist cadres entered the UML," said UML District Committee Chairman Rebati Raman Bhandari.
