Weapons being imported as per pactl: PM Nepal
KATHMANDU, JAN 18 - Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Tuesday said that the government is not importing new weapons for the Nepal Army (NA) but is bringing the much-needed weapons as per the old agreement.
According to RSS news, the prime minister, in a meeting with UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, clarified that the weapons are being imported in accordance with the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) that are needed for training the Army.
”Informing the media about the discussion, Home Minister Bhim Rawal said that the duo also discussed the implementation of the three-point pact between the government and the Maoists,” the RSS news bulletin reads.
Tuesday’s edition of the Kathmandu Post has published a report, quoting a highly placed Army source, that the government is importing lethal military hardware for the NA from India in a few days. (Military hardware coming from India; Army claims ignorance)
The Maoists Standing Committee meeting on Monday had decided to take up the issue with the concerned authority. The party meet had also concluded that if the rumor about the move was anything to go by then it was in breach of the CPA.
As per the CPA, neither the government nor the Maoists shall recruit additional troops, transport arms, ammunition and explosives or conduct military activities against each other.
