Hisila denied speech in Maoist training
KATHMANDU, JAN 17 - Maoist leader Hisila Yami was barred from delivering a speech during the party’s training programme in the Capital on Monday, shortly after her husband and party Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai boycotted the programme.
Earlier today, Vice Chairman Bhattarai boycotted the training campaign organised at Bhrikuti Mandap expressing reservations over the party’s decision not to include his proposal during the training session.
Leader Yami, former Tourism Minister and sub in-charge of the party’s New State Committee, said she was flatly denied the chance to speak about Dr. Bhattarai’s boycott when she asked for some time after Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal imparted training to the regional leaders and cadres.
After her request was turned down, she walked up to the stage to express her protest. But the microphone was turned off by New State Committee In-charge Hitman Shakya.
Following the incident, Yami said she announced her boycott of the programme, chanting “long live internal populism, one-hand can’t clap.”
"I was stopped when I was about to speak about internal populism,” said Yami, “Many leaders including me boycotted the session after the different voice was prohibited."
The UCPN (Maoist) launched its nationwide training campaign for its regional and district leaders today.
